Description

Chase Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with remodels and extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame and has flint and brick infilling. The front wall has been rebuilt using flint, stone rubble, and brick, and there are brick extensions. The roof is covered with clay plain tiles and features hipped and half-hipped ends, along with a brick axial stack.

The building has a three-room plan, which likely started as a two-room plan with a small unheated service room on the right and a kitchen on the left, now located at the center, heated by a fireplace in the axial stack and accessed through a lobby entrance at the front. There is a circa 18th century one-room plan extension on the left side.

The exterior is one storey with an attic and has an asymmetrical three-window southeast front, featuring 20th-century two- and three-light casements and attic windows in two raking dormers. To the right, there is a panelled door with an open porch that has a tiled canopy. The rear side shows exposed timber framing with curved tension braces and flint and brick infilling, along with a small later outshut on the right.

Inside, the former kitchen includes a large brick fireplace with a chamfered timber bressumer, as well as exposed axial beams and joists. The wall framing and roof structure are also exposed, showcasing a queen-post truss.
