Description
The Malthouse is a farmhouse, oast, and former malthouse that dates from the early 17th century, with front extensions from the early 19th century and further additions in the mid and late 19th century, as well as early 20th-century alterations and late 20th-century modifications. The building features a combination of brickwork that is partly rendered and painted white, encapsulating a 17th-century timber frame with brick infill on the interior. It has a tiled roof with a rendered brick stack at the gable end of the main range and a brick gable stack on the added service range to the right.
The structure is two storeys high, with a later 19th-century single-storey range and attic added further to the right. The front of the main range showcases three identical tripartite timber frame central sashes, each consisting of three panes, flanked by narrow sidelights. The upper sashes have gothic heads to the glazing bars. There is a painted brick porch with a hipped tiled roof and gothic sidelights. The attached 17th-century range features 19th-century casements and a plank door. The former malthouse attached to the building is one storey with attics and is constructed of brick, with a rear elevation that has a catslide roof and four 19th-century gables. The interior reveals exposed framing, including a spine beam with lambs tongue stop.
