Description
Graces Cottage, located 20 metres north of Downlands, is a service house dating from the 16th century, with alterations from the early and late 19th centuries. The building features a mix of wall materials; the east front is constructed of Victorian red brick in English bond, with cambered openings, while the south side is made of carstone with brick dressings. The south wall has carstone with brick quoins, the west side is primarily stone but includes exposed timber framing in the upper section, and the north end wall also has exposed framing above a stone wall. The roof is tiled, hipped and half-hipped, with two small gabled half-dormers. The cottage is a timber-framed smoke-bay house that has been reclad at different times and restored. It has one and a half storeys with irregular window arrangements and features 20th-century casements and three boarded doors.
