Description

Downlands is a country house located in Bramshott, built in the mid-18th century, around 1800, with later additions from the late 19th century. The front walls are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring sandstone quoins, first and second floor bands, a plinth, and plain architraves with keys on the second floor. The rear walls are made of ironstone with galletted joints, while the side walls consist of ironstone with the second floor in brickwork with blue headers. The ground floor bays, added in the 19th century, are made of Bath stone and have moulded cornices. The house has two tapered stacks at each end of the brickwork above the lower ironstone sections. It features a low-pitched hipped slate roof with wide eaves and brackets at the front, set against a plain fascia.

This Georgian house has two storeys, raised to three at the second date, and presents a symmetrical south front with three storeys and five windows. The windows are sashes set in reveals, with two large ground floor bays, each containing three Victorian sashes. The doorway features an arched architrave and a Gothic fanlight set within a stone shallow porch, which dates to around 1800. This porch has a classical 'inantis' form with a simple entablature above Ionic columns, flanked by plain square columns. There are rear wings of two storeys, with further irregular extensions from the 19th century. Each side has a flank wall of sandstone, with plain coping that curves downward above the doorways, particularly filled at the east side.
