Description

The oasts at Quinces are a complex of buildings comprising oasts, barns, and a small house, dating back to the late 18th century. The majority of the structures were built in the mid-19th century, with the house added in the 20th century. The walls are constructed of sandstone, with brickwork in both English and Flemish bond patterns, and upper walls are boarded. The roof is tiled, with steep pyramidal and conical forms above the oasts, and hipped and half-hipped profiles on other sections. The composition is irregular, incorporating a square oast attached to a rectangular barn, a circular oast with an outshot (a projecting part of the building), and a lower range built later, with the house connecting to the south side. The buildings feature casement windows and boarded doors.
