Description

The Tudor Gatehouse at Bramshott Place, also known as King George's Hospital, is a Grade II* listed structure dating from the early 16th century. This two-storey square building was likely a gazebo above a gateway leading to a now-lost walled garden. The walls are constructed of brick in English bond and feature round buttresses at each corner. The buttresses have decorative cut-brick designs, with lozenges on the south side and diagonal grooves on the north side, all resting on octagonal moulded bases. The tops of the walls are gabled in an ogee shape, each adorned with a more elaborate finial, while the roof is concealed.

On the north elevation, there is a wide Tudor arch with a hoodmould and several layers of classical mouldings in cut brickwork. Above this arch is an oriel window, now cemented, topped with a tiled roof and a receding base of brick mouldings. The south side features a smaller but similar archway, with a Tudor-style 19th-century window above it. The east wall has an oriel window similar to the one at the front, while the west side has a small casement window. Inside the gateway, there are recesses in the east and west walls, and outside, there are signs that suggest the lower part was once connected to garden walls.
