Description

Hall Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 14th century, with additions from the 17th century and early 19th century. It features rendered walls and a tiled roof. Originally a medieval hall, it has two-storeyed cross wings and a porch, with modifications made in the 17th and early 19th centuries.

The front of the house, facing northwest, showcases the wide gables of the wings and the narrower gable of the two-storeyed porch, along with a gable in front of the central hall section. The house is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of 2.1.1 above 1.2.1. The structure is roughcast over thick flint walls, with two small stone windows and the stone frame of a larger 17th-century window, featuring some cambered openings. The windows include sashes and casements. The doorway has a Gothic stone arch, with a 20th-century boarded door and narrow side windows, and above it is a shield displaying armorial devices.

The rear elevation reveals exposed flint walls with brick dressings, particularly at the back of the hipped-roofed west wing and the outshot of the former hall. The gable of the east wing is roughcast and has a coupled stone-framed upper light. The west elevation, which is the side of the west wing, features a stone-framed upper window and a large attached tapered stack. The east elevation has early 19th-century sash windows and a 20th-century half-glazed door set within a wide, tile-roofed open porch. The inner door to the front porch is a medieval stone arch. The building is believed to have been constructed by John of Bynteworth and was used as a manor court.
