Description
The stable block immediately west of Highclere Castle dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a U-shaped, two-storey building with generally symmetrical elevations and features a central carriage arch. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, covered with slate, and has plain wide eaves soffits. The walls are made of red brick laid in English bond, with rubbed flat arches, a first-floor band, stone cills, and a plinth. Some alterations have been made to the original structure, including the walling facing the inner courtyard, which has been painted. The building has sash windows, although several openings have been filled in. There is also an extension in a matching style on the southeast arm.
