Description

Live Arch Bridge is a drive bridge located over a park lake in Highclere Park, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of yellow and red brick and features a single-span wide segmental arch with rusticated brick voussoirs and rendered keyblocks. The bridge lacks parapets, which are likely missing, and has 20th-century railings in place of the original parapets. It carries a drive that crosses the south end of a smaller lake that feeds into Duns Mere, a large lake created during the late 18th century as part of the park's remodelling according to a plan by Capability Brown. The bridge is depicted on Major Bull's 1818 map of the park.
