Description

Whitway Cottage is a house dating back to the 15th century, with significant alterations made in the early 19th century. It is rectangular in shape and has one storey and an attic. The exterior is clad in painted brickwork dating to the 19th century, and the roof is thatched, with a half-hip design. Windows are casements, some of which are cast-iron Gothic lights, also from the 19th century. The central section of the house is a heavy timber-framed structure, originally a single-bay late medieval house. A substantial chimney breast, now incorporated into a room, was attached to the original building. During renovations, a collection of Tudor coins was discovered within the old part of the cottage.
