Description

This is an 18th and early 19th century house, with later alterations in the mid-19th century. It stands on George Street, Kingsclere. The front (south) elevation presents as a large two-storey, eight-window façade. The roof is slate, with a returned western end and a taller, hipped roof section. The front is constructed of blue brick in a Flemish bond pattern, featuring Dutch flat arches and stone sills. Victorian sash windows are set in reveals; the ground floor incorporates two shopfronts and a carriage entrance on the central and eastern sides. The rear elevation, dating from the early 19th century, has projecting middle and western sections, each two storeys high and featuring 2.2 windows. The rear roof is tiled and hipped. The rear is built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern. A central archway constructed of reused medieval (moulded stone) is flanked by two French doors - one dating from the late 18th century and the other from the mid-19th century. The arch is surrounded by a band of flint and red brick panels with blue quoins. A ground-floor unit at the west end, which may have originally been a porch, is now a window.
