Description
This is a short terrace of three buildings, numbers 1, 1A, and 1B Swan Street, dating to the 17th century with early 19th-century alterations. The terrace represents a refronting of an earlier timber-frame structure, now presenting a regular, two-storey facade with five upper windows. The roof is tiled and hipped at the south end, with the front hip being higher than the return south slope, and features wrought-iron eaves brackets. The front is faced with painted brick in a Flemish bond pattern, incorporating two rubbed flat arches and stone cills. The windows are sash windows within reveals, with one modern ground-floor casement. The south side has a double shop-front featuring bow windows (with modern interior framing), a moulded cornice, thin fluted pilasters, and a fanlight above the doorway with diagonal glazing bars. Modern doors are present, with the door to number 1A set within a solid frame enclosing a fanlight and a plain canopy above. The north end gable shows exposed framing, indicating the front wall is an addition with a higher eaves level. The rear elevation has lower eaves and three unequal gables, two of which are tile-hung.
