Description

Middle Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, with further development in the 17th and mid-19th centuries. It originally comprised an eastern block with a later, substantial addition to the west. The roof is tiled, and there are large Victorian chimney stacks. The east front, featuring two windows, and the north gable, with a single window, display an exposed timber frame filled with herring-bone brickwork. The wooden casement windows on these facades have three lights above the south windows, and sit on moulded cills with tiled gables over the tops of the windows. The south gable is constructed of red brick in English bond, featuring a moulded brick cornice at the verge and a similar band to the first floor, which is raised centrally to create a hood shape. The lower part of this band merges with the raised face of the first-floor window surround. A first-floor band also merges with the upper window surround, and the gable features quoins. The upper window includes a flat arch and a wider opening, now partially filled. The 19th-century casement windows at this level have three lights above four and are set on moulded cills with tiled gables. The later western section has lower brick walls, upper walls covered in tiles with scalloped bands, casement windows, and a small entrance porch.
