Description
The Wheatsheaf Inn is an 18th-century building with later additions. The main facade faces west and features a blind arcade of five units, each bay containing a window on both the first and ground floors. The roof is made of red tiles and is rounded at the south-west corner, with moulded brick dentil eaves. The walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with pilasters that have flint impost bands and keystones. The openings are topped with rubbed flat arches. Above the ground floor arch and entirely within the arcade, there are blue headers and a blue band above each extrados, along with stone cills and a cement plinth. The windows are sash types set in reveals.
On the north side, there is an additional bay, followed by a long, lower two-storey wing on the south side. The corner of this wing is rounded and features a ground-floor window. The east facade is symmetrical, with two storeys and an attic, and three upper windows, along with two flat-roofed dormers. Between the windows, blue headers create diamond patterns. The ground floor has a projecting 20th-century block, featuring a three-light window on each side of a recessed entrance, with a parapet rising in the centre as a semi-circle to enclose a sculptured sheaf. There are several rear extensions from the mid-19th century.
