Description
Hook Hatchet, facing Chapel Street, and Up Street Cottage is a building that dates from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, with alterations made in 1829. It is a two-storey T-shaped structure featuring units of different dates and styles. The front of Hook Hatchet has three windows and is topped with a hipped pantile roof. It displays brick dentil eaves and red brick walls that are richly patterned with nine horizontal flint panels and cambered openings. The windows are modern casements, and there is a solid porch that matches the wall pattern, also featuring a hipped roof. The northern part of the building is a timber-framed house with 18th-century cladding made of painted brick in English bond, which includes a first-floor band, while the other two walls are tile-hung and have modern features. Hook Hatchet also has a small flush stone plaque inscribed with "IBAB," and the flint panelling is visible on the other three sides of the building.
