Description

No. 67 High Street, known as The Mint, is a 16th century timber-framed house. It has two storeys and an attic, with two windows and a tiled roof. The ground floor, which was previously underbuilt with brick, has been restored to its original state using old timbers where possible. The first floor features a jettied cut and a moulded bressumer. There are modern dormer and casement windows on both floors. Access is via a doorway that is reached by three steps, featuring a mid-17th century doorcase with a carved overdoor and egg and dart moulding around the frame. The door itself has three panels in linenfold at the bottom and one large panel with diamond ornamentation above. According to the Victoria County History, the house contains 16th century open fireplaces and a timbered roof. Nos. 67 to 70, Nos. 72 to 80, and Bank Chambers form a group.
