Description

The Oast House at Bosney Farm is a late 17th century or early 18th century farm building that was converted around 1840 into a storage range for an oast house, with a pair of cylindrical kilns added at the southeast end. The oast house was later enlarged with an additional pair of cylindrical kilns, one on either side of the extended storage range. The wing on the northeast side was extended in the later 19th century. The earlier section features a timber frame with weatherboard cladding and a tiled roof that is half hipped at the northwest end. The 19th century wing is constructed of brick with a gabled corrugated asbestos roof. The building is two storeys tall. The brick kilns have three-course corbelled brick eaves cornices; the earlier pair features tiled cones and vent caps with metal ball finials, while the later pair has rendered brick cones and tiled vent caps with similar finials. The upper floor of the storage range is boarded, with galets and two access points behind the earlier pair of kilns, each approached by flights of steps. The kilns have boarded stable doors and the fenestration is irregular with glazing bars. Inside, the storage range contains three raised cruck trusses in the earlier section and king post trusses in the 19th century wing. The building has group value with Bosney Farm House.
