Description

This is a timber-framed house located on Church Square, likely dating from the 16th century or earlier. It is a three-storey building with one window. The first floor slightly overhangs the projecting ends of the floor joists. Some of the posts in the lower storeys are original, featuring mortices that suggest former brackets. The lintel above the ground-floor window is carved with quatrefoils. Modern casement windows have been installed. Curved braces are visible on either side of the first-floor window. According to the Victoria County History, the house (formerly number 25) possesses open timbered ceilings and fireplaces dating from the 16th century. The property forms a group with numbers 20 to 46 (even) and number 33, and with numbers 27 to 30 on Watchbell Street.
