Description

This is an early 16th century timber-framed house on the west side of High Street. It features a first floor that overhangs the projecting ends of the floor joists, supported by a bressummer. The ground floor is filled with painted brick, while the upper floors have plastered infilling with curved braces. The house is two storeys high with two windows on each floor. Two small 18th century bay or shop windows were added to the ground floor, retaining their original glazing bars. The upper floor has casement windows. A doorway with pilasters leads to a six-panel fielded door, with the top two panels cut away and glazed. An original doorway is likely blocked up to the right. The building forms part of a group with numbers 40 to 50 (even) and the Boundary Stone.
