Description

No. 40 High Street is a 16th-century timber-framed house that was altered in the 18th century but still features the overhang of its first floor supported by a bressummer and brackets. The front is plastered, and the building has two storeys plus an attic. It has one window and one gabled dormer. The first floor has 18th-century sash windows, while the ground floor features a small contemporary curved shop window with a sliding center panel, both retaining their original glazing bars. The entrance has a six-panel fielded door, with the top two panels cut away and glazed. No. 40 is part of a group that includes Nos. 40 to 50 (even) and a boundary stone.
