Description
No. 6 High Street is a largely 18th-century building, with a rear wing likely dating to the 17th century. The front of the building, which faces the street, was likely built in the second half of the 18th century and retains its original appearance. It is two storeys and has an attic. The front is constructed of blue brick with red brick detailing, and features a brick plinth and string course. A central doorway is flanked by four-over-four pane sash windows on each side of the ground floor. The first floor has a central three-over-four pane sash window, flanked by four-over-four pane sash windows. There are three hipped-roof dormers in the attic. The roof is tiled, with a moulded wooden cornice and gabled ends; the end wall is tile-hung and rendered.
The rear of the building reveals brick and stone rubble walls, suggesting an earlier structure was refaced. The rear wing is likely from the 17th century and features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, is partly tile-hung, and has segmental-arch window openings. The end wall is tile-hung and rendered.
Inside, there are fielded-panel doors and a dog-leg staircase with square-section balusters and a moulded rail.
The building is part of a group of listed buildings along High Street, extending up to and including No. 118.
