Description

These are four houses, numbered 14 to 17, dating to around 1820 on the south-east side of Wellington Square. The facades are stuccoed with a rusticated ground floor. A cornice runs along the eaves and the roof has a slate mansard with flat-headed dormers containing sash windows. The ground floor doorways are round-headed, with traceried fanlights; the fanlight to number 16 has been blocked. The ground floor also has moulded panelled doors and sash windows, although the glazing bars have been lost from number 16's windows. The first floor has French windows, many of which have decorative ironwork balconies. Number 15 retains its tent-shaped canopy, while number 16 has a wider, bowed first-floor bay with a cast-iron balcony (but lacking a canopy). The second floor has sash windows; numbers 14 and 17 retain their original glazing bars, number 15 has been replaced with a casement window, and number 16 has a cast iron balconette. Basement area railings feature arrow-head shafts and turned newels topped with pineapple finials. The listed buildings of Wellington Square are considered to form a group.
