Description
Arborfield Court is a large country house, built in 1904 by Fairfax B. Wade, and now divided into two separate units. It is constructed of red brick with orange dressings, with rendered panels between window heads and sills, and has a tile hipped roof with extended brick end stacks. The house is two storeys high with attics.
The architectural style is free William and Mary. The entrance front has three central bays that project, with a further projection in the central bay containing a pedimented stair tower. The central bay is panelled over three storeys with a recessed dressed arch above a triple keystone. An octagonal wooden oriel window, with rendered panels, rises over two storeys to the attic floor. The main facade features nine bays with cross casements in the outer three bays on each side, and six-light casements flanking the central bays; all windows are leaded. A recessed arched entrance is topped by a large, recessed open segmental pediment, which is filled in on the sides and panelled. The entrance is framed by panelled double doors with a latticed overlight and sidelights, set within a brick surround. The whole is flanked by small, single-storey projecting pavilions. The garden front is in a similar style, with projecting wings.
Inside, there is a return staircase in a panelled well, featuring a barley sugar balustrade.
