Description

South Lodge to Silwood Park is a lodge dating from 1876 to 1878, designed by Alfred Waterhouse. It is constructed from red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with bands of darker bricks used as headers. The roof has a steep pitch, covered in tiles, and features crested ridge tiles. The lodge has an irregular plan and one or two storeys. A central chimney has an offset head. The gables feature a corbelled first floor, corbelled kneelers, and decorative brickwork, including toothed and dentilled details, beneath the verges. A high, projecting weathered plinth runs around the base of the building. Sash windows are fitted with segmental arches. The west front has two gables, both two bays wide, with the left-hand gable being taller. An entrance is located on the south return. The interior has not been inspected. It is one of five lodges built for Silwood Park.
