Description
Titness Cottage is a house that was originally a stable block, built around 1830 and altered and extended in the late 19th century. It features painted stucco and a low pitched slate roof with coped gable ends. The building has a rectangular plan with extensions to the west and stands two storeys tall.
The exterior includes three chimneys with offset heads and louvered terracotta pots, a plinth, a narrow band at the ground floor sills, and a plat band at the first floor sills. There is a heavy moulded cornice and a blocking course. The house has sash windows with glazing bars, while the former stable block has casement windows.
On the south-facing entrance front, there are three bays, with the left bay set back. The ground floor features tripartite sash windows, while the first floor has single sash windows, all with moulded architraves. The central entrance door is part glazed and has a plain cornice head and rectangular overlight, framed by a moulded architrave. The doorcase is supported by square columns and has a modified entablature and pediment.
The interior was vandalised when surveyed, with stair balusters and a fireplace removed, although some window shutters remain. The ceiling cornice in the hall is enriched with bead and reel and floral ornament.
