Description

East Lodge and outhouse to Silwood Park is a lodge, now a house, dating from 1876 to 1878 and designed by Alfred Waterhouse, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, accented with darker header bricks in horizontal bands. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled, with crested ridge tiles. The building has a T-plan, with a central chimney featuring an offset head. The gable has a corbelled first floor and kneelers, with decorative toothed and dentilled brickwork beneath the verges. A high, projecting weathered plinth runs along the base, and the windows are sash windows with segmental arched heads. The east front has a narrow window on both ground and first floor levels, with a larger window to the right on the ground floor. A planked entrance door is located on the left, featuring a glazed upper panel and a tiled pent roof. An outhouse, originally separate, is now linked to the main lodge by a 20th-century wall and has a hipped roof. The interior was not inspected. The lodge is one of five lodges constructed at Silwood Park and was also designed by Alfred Waterhouse.
