Description
This is a pair of hall houses, originally two dwellings, now converted into three cottages. The core of the building dates to the late 14th century, with significant extensions and alterations occurring in the 19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed from a combination of timber framing with brick infill and brick, and features an old tile gabled roof. It has a rectangular plan of five framed bays, with extensions to the right and at the rear. Crucially, the second and third bays from the left retain cruck construction. The building is one and a half storeys high and has two chimneys on the ridge to the left of the centre, each with a clay pot chimney stack, and three chimneys at the rear. The front facing the road has an irregular pattern of windows, which are primarily 2- and 3-light casement windows with glazing bars. Three gabled dormers project from the roof. There are two planked entrance doors; one at the left end is wider than the other located nearer the centre. A brick 19th-century extension is present on the right side, featuring a single 3-light casement window with a segmental arched head. A 20th-century entrance door is located on the side of the building. Internally, numbers 2 and 3 retain much of the original timber frame structure. Number 3 has a large fireplace.
