Description
A late 18th-century estate cottage, extended in the 20th century, is located on Kennel Ride, near Ascot. The cottage is constructed of painted Flemish bond brick, with a clay plain tile hipped roof and a brick lateral stack. The plan is a double-depth design, with a 20th-century extension to the rear northwest. The single-story east front is nearly symmetrical, featuring a central doorway with a plank door and a later wooden canopy. Flanked by the doorway are two-light casement windows with glazing bars. The south side has a brick lateral stack located to the right and a two-light casement window to the left. The interior retains its original plan, joinery, and plank doors. The southeast room has a simple wooden chimneypiece. The cottage is situated on what was once a ride within Windsor Forest, specifically Kennel Ride, which originally led to Royal Kennels; it is thought to have been built around the time those kennels were rebuilt in 1790.
