Description

93A and 94 Peascod Street is a house that has been converted into shops and offices. It dates from the 17th century, was altered in the early 18th century, and was refronted around 1840. The building is timber-framed, with stucco on the rear and side elevations, and features a red brick facade. It has an old tiled roof with a felted flat crown and a double-depth plan, with the rear unit likely added later and gabled to the rear.

The structure has two storeys and three windows, with the center window being blank and the others featuring glazing bar sashes under flat rubbed brick arches. The ground floor has later 19th-century shop fronts supported by pilasters and consoles; the left shop front is one bay wide and intact, while the right shop front is two bays wide and was remodeled in the 20th century within late 19th-century framework. A simple string course of three projecting courses runs below the parapet. The roof is hipped to the right and includes a dormer with a two-light casement window.

On the rear and flank elevations, there are three sashes with segmental heads and broad glazing bars from the early 18th century. Inside, the front right-hand first floor room was divided into two until the 20th century, but the 18th-century coved ceilings of both rooms remain, featuring enriched plaster cornices. Some 17th-century panelling has been reused in the attic partitions.
