Description
No 65, St Leonard's Street, known as The Merry Wives of Windsor, is a 17th century timber-framed building that has been significantly altered. It likely originally featured an overhang. The building has two storeys with a plastered and painted exterior, and no timber framing is visible. The ground floor has been extended with a public house front dating from around 1900. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with old tiles. In the early 19th century, three flush architrave framed sash windows were added to the first floor, arranged in a tripartite configuration with glazing bars. There are also two gabled casement dormers. The public house front includes pilasters, a cornice, and a parapet that rises to a pedimental gable at the center. The doorways are round archivolt arches with pilasters, with the central doorway being broader. The beams are boxed in, except for the central ceiling beam.
