Description
The Wilderness is a plain early 19th century house with later additions, located on Cookham Road. It is constructed of red brick with stone or stucco dressings, which include parapet coping, a cornice, first-floor bands, and window sills. The building has two storeys and a basement, although the basement windows are blocked. There are four double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, all set under gauged brick arches. A chimney is located at the right end of the house. The lower windows on the rear elevation have been altered. A lower right wing, which likely dates from the 18th century, features a fairly high-pitched roof and similar stucco windows. Extending from this wing is a slightly later 19th century service wing that runs to the back. On the rear elevation, beyond the service wing, there is one window with Gothick interlaced glazing.
