Description
Nos 33 and 34 on Cheap Street date from around 1679, as indicated by the carved pendants, and were renovated in the late 19th century and mid 20th century. This building is two-and-a-half storeys tall and features three gabled bays. It has a tiled roof and tile-hung gables with swept verges. The gables are adorned with carved bargeboards and drooping finials, which are dated 1679 and bear the initials "SAM". The front is plastered, and there is a wooden modillion eaves cornice. The gables contain three-light casement dormers, while the first floor has three-light windows with mullions, transoms, and glazing bars. The building also includes modern shopfronts. Historically, it served as the family home of the Mermian family, with "SAM" representing Samuel and Ann Mermian.
