Description

The Elephant At the Market is a mid-19th century building that has been refronted from an older inn, which was known as "The Three Tuns" in the early 19th century and "the Elephant and Castle" before that. The building stands three storeys tall and features five windows. Its stucco front is adorned with a bracketed cornice and an end parapet that has a segmental centre. There are plain bands at the floor levels, and the windows are architraved sash types. The ground floor includes a four-light window with cast iron colonnette mullions and segmental heads above the lights. The entrance is framed by pilasters and topped with a segmental pediment, and there is a carriage entrance located at the south end.
