Description

No. 48 Cheap Street is a mid to late 17th century house that was refronted in the early 19th century. The building features four windows, with the outer bays having blind windows. It has a hipped tiled roof with projecting eaves. The front is rendered brick, while the returns are tile-hung. There is a string course above the central first floor windows, and the windows are recessed sash with glazing bars. A large 17th century brick stack is present. The shop fronts are modern. Inside, there is a notable early 18th century staircase with a closed string, square newels, and twisted balusters. The back room on the first floor has good late 18th century panelling.
