15/10 Pair of Gate piers 210 metres due South of Church Tower

Gate piers. Late C17. Possibly by Edward Pierce. Stone. Pair of tall square piers with moulded plinths, rusticated corners and corniced caps surmounted by stone balls. Heavily carved panels of fruit, flowers and leaves to north and south faces, plain pilasters with scroll caps to east and west faces. Gate piers to the former Manor House built for the Earl of Craven by Sir BalthazarGerbier and William Wynne and burnt down in 1718. B.O.E.
