Description
This pair of gate piers, located 210 metres south of the church tower, dates from the late 17th century and is possibly the work of Edward Pierce. They are made of stone and feature tall square shapes with moulded plinths, rusticated corners, and corniced caps topped with stone balls. The north and south faces are adorned with heavily carved panels depicting fruit, flowers, and leaves, while the east and west faces have plain pilasters with scroll caps. These gate piers were originally part of the former Manor House built for the Earl of Craven by Sir Balthazar Gerbier and William Wynne, which was destroyed by fire in 1718.
