Description
The Star is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to the 15th century, with alterations and additions made in the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building features tile hanging over a brick and timber frame, with a flint plinth and tiled roofs. It is designed in an L shape with a half hip to the gable on the west side. The structure is one and a half storeys high and has three gabled dormers on the west side, which have rendered gables adorned with star and fleur de lis patterns. There are end stacks on the north, south, and east sides, as well as ridge stacks at the centre of each ridge.
On the west elevation, there is a five-light square flat-roofed bay on the left gable, featuring a glazing bar sash window in the centre and a four-light mullioned and transomed casement window to the right. The dormers contain three-light casement windows. To the right of the bay, there is a flat timber porch over a 20th-century door, and a flat square timber porch over a closed 20th-century door situated between the sash and casement windows.
Inside, there are remains of an arch-braced truss with moulded braces in the centre of the west range, as well as a large curved brace in the partition wall between the west and north ranges. The north range has timber framing, with parts from the 16th and 17th centuries exposed on the upper floors.
