Description
No. 57 is a cottage located on the north side of Upper End in Chaddleworth, dating from the 17th century with some 20th-century alterations. The building features painted brick and some timber framing, topped with a thatched roof that sweeps down at the sides and rear. It has a rectangular plan with an outshut at the rear and an extension to the side. The cottage is one and a half storeys high, with two dormers that are gabled at the front and cut into the thatch at the rear. There are chimneys at each end of the ridge.
On the front elevation, there are two large 20th-century casement windows with cambered heads, and a plain door located in the extension to the right. The rear elevation reveals exposed timber framing, with two-light casements in the dormers, and doors situated in the extension to the left and in the center.
