Description

Manor House, gate piers, and iron railings are located on the south side of Church Street in Hampstead Norreys. This large farmhouse dates from the late 16th century, with alterations in the 18th century and extensions in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick, with sections covered in mathematical tiles, and features old tile and slate gabled roofs of varying heights. The building has a T-plan layout and is two storeys high with attics.

The older central part of the house has two flanking chimneys with offset heads, and the right-hand chimney has panelled sides. There is a hipped dormer on the west side. The north front features the central part clad in mathematical tiles with a battlemented parapet. It has three bays, with sash windows that include glazing bars; the outer bays are tripartite, while there is a large three-light casement to the right on the ground floor. The central entrance door is panelled, with the upper part glazed and leaded, set within a Doric doorcase that includes pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment.

To the right of the central part is a slightly projecting gable with string courses at the first and second floor levels, leading to a crow-stepped gable end. This section has one bay with sash windows featuring glazing bars and segmental heads; the tripartite windows on the ground and first floors are three panes wide on the attic floor. An early 19th-century projecting wing on the left has a slate roof and features three-light upper sashes and a single lower sash with glazing bars on the west return front.

Inside, there is a late 16th-century staircase with square newels, turned balusters, and a moulded handrail. At the roadside, there are 18th-century brick gate piers with vermiculated bands and 19th-century iron railings topped with spear heads.
