Description
Eddington House is a large house dating primarily from the early 19th century, with an addition made in the late 19th century. An extension and remodelling occurred, evidenced by a porch dated 1927. The southern part of the house is rendered and lined out, featuring a stucco cornice and parapet. An ashlar porch is present, with flint side walls. The roof is slate, hipped, and features flanking chimneys. The northern section is of red brick, with rubbed flat arches, a cement cornice and parapet, and a red tiled, hipped roof with a central chimney. The house is two storeys high.
The east elevation presents three glazing bar sashes to the left, one being a tripartite window. A central, projecting closed porch features Doric corner columns and a swan neck pediment over the central doorway, which has a pulvinated frieze. To the right are two principal bays, the right-hand bay breaking forward to create a full-height, three-window bow with French casements on the ground floor.
The south elevation features an ashlar loggia from the 20th century, in a hexastyle in antis with Ionic columns. A semi-circular bow is located to the left, containing two curved section glazing bar sashes and French casements below. A large service wing extends to the rear, on the north-east side, and three glazing bar sashes are present here. Historical context can be found in the Victoria County History, volume four, page 184.
