Description
Nos. 43 and 45 High Street are two houses that have been converted into offices. The left-hand block dates from the early 19th century and is built of red brick with a hipped slate roof. It has two storeys and features a rendered plinth, gauged heads, a dentil brick eaves cornice, end stacks, and two ridge stacks that are off-centre to the left and right. The building has nine bays, with the central five slightly projecting. The windows are glazing bar sashes, and those in the centre on the ground floor have serrated blind boxes. There is a central six-panelled door with a radial fanlight and a wide moulded architrave that includes impost mouldings.
The right-hand block is an early 18th-century refronting of an older building. It is also made of red brick, with tuck pointing, and has an old tile roof that is hipped to the front and off-centre to the right. This block has two storeys, a rendered plinth, gauged heads, a moulded plat band, a moulded cornice, a parapet, and a ridge stack. It has three bays with segmental-headed sashes, and the first-floor windows have glazing bars. There is a later six-panelled door in the left-hand bay with a plain surround and a bracketed flat hood. Notably, No. 43 was formerly part of Blatch's Brewery.
