Description
Old World Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with 20th-century extensions and alterations. It features a combination of brick and timber framing with brick infill, topped by an old tiled roof that has a half hip on the east side. The building has a T plan with 20th-century extensions added to the center, south, and west. It consists of three timber-framed bays and has a ridge chimney located to the east of the central timber-framed bay.
On the north elevation, there are three 20th-century gabled eaves dormers in the center, along with one 20th-century casement window in each of the left-hand bays. A wide lean-to 20th-century porch covers the center right bay, which includes one 20th-century casement window and a door, as well as a three-light casement window in the 20th-century extension to the right.
Inside, the timber frame is exposed, and there is an early 17th-century painted text on a beam that formed the top of the partition on the ground floor between the west bay and the original central bay. The text reads: "Whether ye eate or else do drynke be sure upon the Lorde allm, and yuse al f all this is the counsell of saynt poull." There are further traces of painting on other beams and joists throughout the interior.
