Description

This is a late 18th-century farmhouse, with 20th-century modifications to the main entrance. The house is primarily brick built, with rendered sections, and has a tile roof. It is rectangular in plan and stands two-and-a-half storeys high, with a hipped roof.

The south-western elevation, which is rendered, has three bays. The central bay is three stories high, with a projecting gable above the eaves line, featuring parapets, piers and a window with a semi-circular head and interlocking glazing bars. Other windows on this elevation are six-over-six paned sash windows with cambered heads and keystones. The main central entrance is through a half-glazed door, protected by a 20th-century porch. The south-eastern rendered elevation contains flat-headed six-over-six sash windows, a ground floor verandah, attic dormers, and a brick chimney stack. A brick elevation faces west, while the north elevation has further sash windows with exposed box frames. The interior has not been inspected.

Hamstead Holt House was built in the late 18th century and is shown on the 1877 Ordnance Survey map as belonging to Kentbury Holt Farm; the name changed to Hamstead Holt Farm by 1900. This caused some confusion with a neighboring farm.

The building is designated at Grade II for being a handsome late 18th-century farmhouse that appears relatively unaltered externally.
