Description
The Forge is a cottage located in Ashampstead, dating from the 17th century with 20th-century additions to the east. It features a timber frame with painted brick nogging and brick additions, topped with a hipped thatched roof sloping to the west, and has a stack at the rear. The building is L-shaped with three framed bays in the western arm and stands at one and a half storeys.
On the south front of the left-hand block, there is a three-light leaded casement window to the left and two two-light leaded casements to the right, with a boarded door from the 20th century positioned between the second and third windows from the left. Above the right-hand casement, there is a Sun Fire Insurance plate. The right-hand block, which is a 20th-century addition, is made of painted brick with planted timber framing and has a hipped thatched roof. It is two storeys high, featuring a two-light casement on the first floor, a one-light casement and a two-light casement on the ground floor, along with a boarded door to the left that is sheltered by a gabled thatched porch.
