Description

The Dock Basin Wall, located on Canute Road, was built between 1838 and 1842. It is constructed from granite ashlar and features a substantial bull-nosed coping. The wall has stairs recessed into its thickness at both the eastern and western ends. Along its face, there are mooring eyes placed at intervals, set within round recesses that have semi-circular heads. This wall is part of the original structure of the first dock basin built in Southampton. Although there have been some later repairs and modifications, the wall remains essentially intact.
