Description
Canute Castle Hotel is a corner building dating from around 1835 to 1840, standing three to four storeys tall. The exterior is stuccoed, featuring a rusticated ground floor. It has two bays facing Canute Road and five bays along Royal Crescent. A notable feature is the octagonal balustraded balcony at the corner, which originally had a viewing chamber above it. The building is topped with a balustraded parapet that has urn finials, concealing the roof. Most of the windows are flanked by Corinthian pilasters, and there is a cornice above the third floor that displays the name of the hotel. The ground floor includes three segmental-headed bar fronts, one of which has engaged fluted columns. The sash windows have vertical glazing bars, and some first-floor windows feature cornices.
