Description

The Dock Basin Wall (West) was constructed between 1838 and 1842 and is made of granite ashlar with a prominent bull-nosed coping. The wall ends to the north with a stair that is recessed into its thickness. Along the face of the wall, there are mooring eyes placed at intervals, set within round recesses that have semi-circular heads. This structure is part of the original wall of the first dock basin built at Southampton.
