Description

139-141 Oxford Road is a pair of mid-19th century houses that feature ground-floor shops and are now divided into flats and shops. The building is constructed of red brick, which is painted on the north elevation, and has a stucco door surround at number 139. It includes iron and glazed shopfronts and a slate roof, rising to three storeys.

The exterior has four bays facing Oxford Road and two bays facing Russell Street. The hipped roof extends beyond the north and west sides, and there are two chimney stacks on the party wall between the two houses. On Oxford Road, the ground floor features two shopfronts with bracketed iron columns that rise from a simple plinth, separating full-height glazing and recessed doorways. The western shopfront is larger, and both have modern fascia boards. To the left of the smaller shopfront, there is a modern door set within a large channelled stucco surround. Each property has two uPVC casement windows on the first and second floors.

The west elevation facing Russell Street has a simple brick-arched doorway and the painted and rendered remains of a signage board on the ground floor, along with two uPVC casement windows on both the first and second floors. At the rear of the property, there is a two-storey apartment block that was built between 2012 and 2014.
