Description

The Mount is a terrace of houses dating to approximately 1876, built for clerks and foremen at Huntley and Palmer's Biscuit Factory. The buildings are constructed of gault brick with white brick bands and chevron-moulded brick window arches on the first floor. The detailing includes a modillion eaves cornice and a slate roof with four principal chimney stacks, each topped with cogged capping. The windows are marginally glazed sashes with bracketed cills and cast iron flower basket guards.

The end houses, numbers 6 and 24, feature two-storey bays with gables and moulded coping, and their windows have stop-moulded lintels. The side elevation, with a three-window arrangement, has a projecting central doorway with a rectangular overlight. Houses numbers 26 to 36 have two windows each; the ground floor windows are framed by flat arches of white and yellow brick. The doorways are paired and have bracketed arches with a joint gable above. Original iron railings and standards remain, with the exception of those at number 6. Two-storey rear extensions exist, along with attic windows to the rear of numbers 6 and 24. Internal features, including ceiling rosettes, a mahogany stair rail with a curly bottom, and plasterwork, are preserved in number 6 and several other houses.
