Description
Uplands is a house located on the corner of Christchurch Road, built in 1876 as a residence for the manager of Huntley and Palmer's Factory. The building is two storeys high and constructed from gault brick, featuring yellow brick cill and lintel bands, along with decorative patterning on the square corner turret. It has a moulded brick modillion eaves cornice and a hipped slate roof with fish-scale bands, complemented by two brick chimneys with cogged capping. The windows are plate glass sash with bracket cills, arranged in four bays along the road, with an angle turret to the left and a canted bay with a turret roof to the right.
The centre of the house features a projecting porch with a pointed arch entrance and a high parapet adorned with moulded brick rosettes, reminiscent of the work of Joseph Morris. The porch also includes a two-order archway with a label and chamfered side piers topped with stone floral caps. The door has decorative panels with an applied patterned lintel. A contemporary conservatory with a hipped glazed roof, crested ridge, and painted panes is located on the ground floor of the outer facet of the turret, which has an angled return to the west. The original railings and standards are still retained, although the interior has been altered.
