Description

The Mount is a circa 1876 terrace of two storeys, originally built for clerks and foremen at Huntley and Palmer's Biscuit Factory. The terrace comprises numbers 8 to 22 (even), numbers 25 and 25 Ros 58, numbers 57 and 57L, and number 59 (Uplands). The building is constructed of gault brick with white brick bands and decorative chevron moulded brick arches over the first-floor windows. It features a modillion eaves cornice and a slate roof with four principal chimney stacks, each topped with cogged capping. The windows are marginally glazed sashes, with cast iron flower basket guards below the cills. The end houses, numbers 8 and 22, have two-storey bays capped by gables with moulded coping, and their windows have stop-moulded lintels. Number 22 has an additional cantilevered first-floor extension in the angle adjacent to the central porch. Numbers 10 to 20 (even) have two windows each; the ground floor windows have flat arches constructed of white and yellow brick. The side elevation has a three-window facade with a projecting central porch featuring an arched entrance. Doors are four-panelled with rectangular overlights. Paired doorways are situated between numbers 10 and 20, incorporating bracketed arched entrances and a joint gable with patterned brickwork. Original railings and standards have been retained.
